Pinellas County is located within the Tampa metropolitan area. Pinellas County has a population over 1 million with the largest city being St. Petersburg. Pinellas County is also referred to as the Tampa Bay area. Pinellas County has several law enforcement agencies, with Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office being the major one. The other police departments include Bellair, Bellair Beach, Clearwater, Gulfport, Indian Shores, Kenneth City, Largo, Pinellas Park, St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg Beach, Tarpon Springs, and Treasure Island. All of the law enforcement agencies do also work with Florida Highway Patrol to help enforce all traffic laws within the county.

Pinellas County law enforcement agencies are all very aggressive and not shy when it comes to making arrests or issuing violations of any sort. In the last year over 115,000 moving violations were issued. More than half of these were for unlawful speed. Florida Highway Patrol uses speed traps, aircraft, pacing and various other methods to catch motorists who have been speeding. The last year also saw over 30,000 criminal violations as well. These violations included driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, and driving without a valid license.
