Jefferson County is the only county in the state of Florida that has 2 out of state bordering neighbors. Jefferson county lies on the border of Georgia and the Gulf of Mexico. The county is pretty small with a population around 14,000. The three main law enforcement agencies for this county are the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol and the Monticello Police Department. The county is very proactive and have a zero tolerance in effect for motorists who do not obey the posted speed limits. Last year around 4,800 violations were issued, with most of these being for unlawful speed.
Florida Highway Patrol uses all approved speed measuring devices in Jefferson County. The three agencies are also very aggressive when it comes to issuing criminal citations in the county.
